At Gglasco,
Our Mission is simple

Incentivize and work hand in hand with the businesses that drive the local industry, to aim at one common goal, BRING PUERTO RICO TO CODE COMPLIANCE.

We believe that keeping a close, ethical, and professional relationship among competitors within a common industry provides a more lucrative environment not only for Glazers but also for Architects and owners (developers). Gglasco brings the industry together in a healthy way, promoting learning activities and consistent social interactions among industry leaders. This eliminates unhealthy and unethical business practices that ultimately will affect our clients and mostly the collective infrastructure of Puerto Rico.

Puerto Rico’s infrastructure is fragile.

Puerto Rico’s windows and glass façades are NOT resilient. We all know that the most important element in a building envelope is its fenestrations, windows, and façades. It doesn’t matter how well reinforced our columns and beams are, if the building envelope is fragile the real property may be lost along with the lives inside.

The interest of our financial backers along with civilian lives is being irresponsibly put at risk every day in almost every single construction that gets built in Puerto Rico, still to this day. It may sound wild, but the truth is that:

Almost every project that is granted construction permits in Puerto Rico DOES NOT in one way or another comply with the governing codes and regulations, especially when it comes to the building envelope.

Sadly, some contractors or developers when challenged by this very unfortunate fact may tell us “Well, the insurance should cover if anything happens”. But is this ethical? Is this even legal? Are insurance companies aware of this?

But where does the system fail?

  • Isn’t there a permitting agency that oversees all this?

  • Isn’t there a board of licensed Engineers that should ensure they incur the best practice, especially when signing construction plans and submitting them to OGPE?

Gglasco steps into the challenge.

Through our best efforts, we will try to change this for the betterment of the Puerto Rican infrastructure.

How do we do it?

  • We digest the complex Engineering and construction codes into simpler facts that our Glazers and Architects will understand. Remember these are ENGINEERING design codes that somehow we are asking our Architects to apply to their designs. Kind of asking a Dentist to deal with our heart issues.

  • We offer continuing education through the CAAPPR (Colegio de Arquitectos y Arquitectos Paisajistas de Puerto Rico) to their 1,100 licensees.

  • We offer free education to all our members.

  • We do the government’s work- We analyze and approve specific products that our Glazers may have to offer in order to make sure they comply with codes and regulations as required by law.

  • We review and approve installers to ensure they understand the correct installation processes.

  • If a product does not pass our review, our Engineers will work with the Glazers in order to help them identify ways to ultimately make their product compliant.

  • We offer a list of

    • Approved products (local products only made in Puerto Rico)

    • Approved Glazers (local fabricators and/or Installers only)

  • Soon, our biannual magazine will be issued to all our members, Architects, and developers across Puerto Rico.

  • We also count on you to join forces for the betterment of our infrastructure.
